Collaborators

Perhaps no other program in the U.S. Department of the Interior has the unique history of collaboration between States and the Federal government than that of the Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Units. Each unit is a partnership among the BRD, the State fish and game agency, a host university, and the Wildlife Management Institute. Units conduct research on renewable natural resource questions; participate in the education of graduate students destined to join the natural resource profession; provide technical assistance and consultation to parties who have interests in natural resource issues; and provide various forms of continuing education for natural resource professionals.

In addition to our national partners of the USGS BRD and The Wildlife Management Institute, the Utah Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (UTCFWRU) has strong ties with the Division of Willdife Resources, Utah Department of Natural Resources (DWR), and the College of Natural Resources, Utah State University (CNR). Our primary responsibility to DWR is to act as a nexus meeting DWR-related research and education needs, helping DWR resolve management issues by linking their information needs with research, education and extension expertise found in the UTCFWRU and CNR Faculty. Within CNR, the UTCFWRU fully particpates in the research and education missions of our host department, Fisheries and Wildlife, teaching graduate level classes and mentoring graduate students. The Unit further acts as a link with, and benefits from, the wealth of other Federal, State and non-government collaborators that interact with CNR.
